Reframing Depression, Low Self Esteem or is it Association?

Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

“Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by assholes.”
~ William Gibson

This post has been sitting in my drafts folder for some time now and recently I had an experience that, well, how can I say this diplomatically and tactfully?… hmmm Well, it pushed me to publish this article.

Having a voice and expressing what’s on your mind is actually healthy management of your emotions.

The heading is absolutely gorgeous. I just love it so much and it’s so bold… and so true.

It’s on so many of our minds but who is game enough to admit to it or say it? … until now … thank you William Gibson.

You are known for your plays and yet this one sentence is a mark in history – like an explosive that radiates splinters so too does this quote ignite change on many levels to come.

As I get older, more experienced, more aware and hopefully wiser 😛 I find myself posing questions more and more to reveal and which do reveal better answers.

Questions posed, I put to you, from an infinite source of wisdom …

An infinite source of knowing… that you too tap into …

Is there a correlation between depression, low self esteem and suicide and with whom you associate?

I’d have to definitely say … YES! a resounding YES, YES YES

and

What is the common denominator between rising depression, anxiety and suicide AND working environments, educational institutions, home and social life?

 PEOPLE!

For sure, we’ve all heard the saying about the bad apple spoiling the batch… well actually it’s an idiom, a common idiom that goes like this –WEBSITES EBA IMAGES 220px-Granny_smith_and_cross_section

a bad apple spoils the barrel

But what does it mean?

Basically, the idiom captures a core idea of negative individuals having an asymmetric and deleterious effect on others. This idea or philosophy is given credence in religion, school environments and our judicial system.

Of course the home environment is our first port of call. But …

Why not health care?

and

Why not the work place?

These are all major environments through which influence of an external nature is derived.  I don’t need to spoon feed scenarios to you. I’m certain you can well relate.

ARE DEPRESSION, LOW SELF ESTEEM AND SUICIDE ATTRIBUTABLE TO WORDLY WAYS?

Unfortunately the ways of the  world, with all its “ization” i.e. westernization, industrialization, commercialization  and globalization, has produced untold and yet unmeasured injury and sacrifice, not only to the planet but its people.

Ization, with all its action and process of doing, has and does, in effect, sacrifice value for product, reduces worth in exchange for quantity, demands time and controls behaviour short changing human potential and sabotaging meaningful relationships. This does of course become a choice of each person individually but once caught in the web of ization many may become entrapped in a cycle of life devoid of individuality, becoming increasingly desensitized to oneself and those around them.

Of course this may be acceptable to some but for many it is not…

SO THERE’S A STRONG ARGUMENT THAT OUR TRUE NATURE IS ONE OF HAPPINESS AND CONFIDENCE

True?

Within our inherent DNA …

And what is re-framing?

Re-framing is the ability to change the interpretation. It is an art of changing the meaning in a particular “model of the world”.

The goal is to view a statement, situation or experience in many and various ways with the ultimate aim and outcome being a more positive perspective.

Re-framing can be implemented on an individual level as well as a group understanding.

In fact, the heading and quote of this article are both re-frames.

Richard Bandler and John Grinder are NLP masters in linguistics and communication. They are well known in the field and art of communication.

Films and videos are also great ways to teach re-framing, as too are songs.

One Bad Apple Lyrics

Yeah… Yeah…
I can tell you been hurt
By that look on your face girl
Some god probably sent me
To your happy world
You need love
But your afraid
That if you give in
Someone else
Will come along
And sock it to you again
One Bad Apple don’t spoil the whole darn bunch
Oh Give it one more chance before you give up on love girl
One Bad Apple don’t spoil the whole darn bunch
Oh I don’t care what they say I don’t care what you’ve heard
Whoo… Whoo…
I could make you happy baby
Satisfy you too
How can I
You won’t give me a chance
To prove my love to you
Won’t you just give me
One new chance
And give you love guaranteed
That you won’t be hurt again
One Bad Apple don’t spoil the whole darn bunch
Oh Give it one more chance before you give up on love girl
One Bad Apple don’t spoil the whole darn bunch
Oh I don’t care what they say I don’t care what you’ve heard
I been noticin’ you baby
For a long long time
I’m not ashamed to tell the world That you really messed up my mind
Girl to me
You’re like a dream come true
I’d rather hurt myself
Than to ever hurt you
One Bad Apple don’t spoil the whole darn bunch
Oh Give it one more chance before you give up on love girl
One Bad Apple don’t spoil the whole darn bunch
Oh I don’t care what they say I don’t care what you’ve heard

Combination of key nutrients reduces stress and emotional problems

Well it’s about time.

Finally  information is coming to light on the significance of the combination of key elements in the diet. Time is a great leveler and although our time on this planet is somewhat protracted at times, all will be revealed.

I’m very glad to see the “research” that’s being compiled on the importance of taking into account combined ingredients. Although I don’t necessarily endorse this article insofar as it is written in respect to “those diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD)”.

So my question to you is,  after reading the information below, would you you consider this as an out of the norm approach or, what many would differentiate as an alternate health care approach?

It really wraps up the concept of Wholistic Health Care or Comprehensive Health Care into a feasible, more up to speed management system, now doesn’t it?

Furthermore, it cannot be denied that the the chemistry imbalance is not simply a deficiency or symptom only prevalent in children or impoverished society.

Hormone imbalance and nutrient underexposure can occur in any person at any time. Not to mention the relevance to both our modern society with its fast food and lifestyle deficiencies, stress as main cursors and the impoverished societies with malnutrition, substandard housing and living conditions with the absence of even the most basic of necessities.

Of course there is also the matter of predisposition to consider along with triggering factors both of which ensure the meaning of health and well being is an all encompassing paradigm.

Exactly what the triggers are would in all truthfulness have to be considered subjectory hence the support for individual circumstances.

Undeniably the comprehensive management of individual circumstances (both internal and external influences) would undoubtedly be the key to attaining and maintaining optimum health care and quality of life with emotional well being sitting at the 12 o’clock position, a concept relevant to adults and children alike.

WICHITA, Kan., Feb. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects approximately two million American children, and this condition has grown to become the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorder of childhood. Stress Management

Stress management is the application of methods to either reduce stress or increase tolerance.

We are all familiar with the term stress. Today it wreaks havoc with society as the numbers for stress, anxiety and depression raise daily affecting our personal and professional lives.

Stress falls under mental health and although mental health is described as either a level of cognitive or emotional well-being or an absence of a mental disorder, World Health Organisation (WHO) defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”.

Employers are often stranded with employees away on sick leave for stress which can impact the workplace office moral, in some cases particularly in smaller businesses causing an overload, not to mention strain on the pocket of the employee.

Prolonged psychological stress can negatively impact health and has been cited as a factor in cognitive impairment with aging, depressive illness and in the expression of physical disease.

Stress Management Techniques

Massage is a common physical method for relieving stress.

Psychological (mental) methods include cognitive therapy, meditation, and positive thinking which work by reducing response to stress.

Skills training is another way to reduce stress. Improving relevant skills and abilities builds confidence which helps to reduce the stress reaction to situations where certain skills are required.

Are you competent and trained sufficiently in the areas you are working?

Reducing uncertainty, by increasing knowledge and experience not only in an area of skill or trade but also in potential areas related to stress-causing situations can reduce or even alleviate stress.

Having someone to speak with or be coached by, someone you can trust, who has experience in the trade can also assist in alleviating stress.

Redefining job roles so that they are appropriate for the level of skill and experience is essential not only for the stress levels of the person involved, also for the working environment, clients and home life.

Stress Management Strategies

Coping strategies such as improving problem solving and time management skills  may reduce stressful reactions to problems.

TO DO

1. Assess your own stress levels

2. Assess the stress levels of others around you

3. Are you bringing stress into the workplace from home

4. Are you taking stress from work home

5. Are your skills sufficient for you to feel competent in your work

6. Do you actually enjoy your work

7. Speak with your workplace regarding more training

8. What skills do you have to cope with stress

9.  Get yourself a coach

Implementing Workplace Wellness Programs are becoming increasingly popular as they are being recognized for their value in improving the health and well-being of their employees.

Emphasis is placed on increasing morale, loyalty and productivity and can include such things as onsite fitness centres, or subscriptions to fitness centres, health presentations related to nutrition, weight and stress management, wellness newsletters, access to coaching and training.

Other programs include health risk assessments, health screenings and body mass index monitoring.

So how are your stress levels and how do you manage them?

Remember stress affects your body chemistry, mental and emotional responses and your body chemistry affects your physical, mental and emotional bodies.

What physical symptoms are you experiencing that perhaps just may be related to stress and when are you going to do something about it?

Love and Blesses

Your E-Coach
