For many “hypnotherapy” is a dirty word
We spend most of our waking time in Beta Brain Wave largely focused on the logical, sequential activity of the left brain hemisphere because the brain is busy processing information from the outside world that has arrived through our five senses.
Most of our current education is beta geared. Characterized by logical, analytical, intellectual thinking and written or verbal communication Beta waves are the predominant brainwaves in our everyday life.

The conscious and unconscious esoteric mind are bridged when our brain wave state is in Alpha, a much slower frequency than Beta. Our brain wave state in this frequency gives us greater amplitude yet we remain relaxed and alert.
When completely relaxed we shift into Alpha at which state we access vivid imagery, and attain detached awareness.
Hypnotherapy is a method of assisting the person to access this brain wave state in a safe and trusting environment where the hypnotherapist “speaks” with the unconscious mind.
In Alpha consciousness we are not bound by time and space as we are in Beta.
STOP unwanted thoughts – A person who takes time out to reflect, meditate or take a break from activity is often in an alpha state. When we concentrate intently on one thought, emotion or activity we have less stimuli to process and our brains can go into Alpha Waves more quickly.
Moving out of Beta Wave frees our left brain’s logical, sequential organization and allows us to also access more creative and intuitive right brain.
|Beta||12-38 Hz||Waking State; conscious mind usually very active; you would normally fluctuate at different levels of Beta during the day. (When a person is stressed they are at a high level of Beta.)|
|Alpha||8-12Hz||Awake, conscious mind is quiet. When you first get up in the morning or just before sleep you would be naturally in the Alpha state. This is the perfect state for visualization as the conscious mind is quiet and it is easier to concentrate and focus your attention.|
|Theta||4-7Hz||Sleep; Body Relaxed and Dreaming; At this level your body is relaxed and you are in contact with your subconscious mind. You can train your conscious mind to be active at this levelThis state is reached in deeper hypnosis, sleep learning and for programming the subconscious mind. You can also receive messages and communications from your subconscious at this level. This is the spiritual level of meditation that monks seek to achieve.|
|Delta||0-3Hz||Deep Dreamless Sleep; At this level the body is healing itself.|

I first became aware of the benefits of hypnotherapy, first hand, in the late 90’s. Since then I haven’t looked back. I subsequently trained in hypnotherapy and incorporated it into coaching sessions. Actually, most clients wanted to experience the benefits and booked especially for hypnotherapy sessions although much hypnosis now takes place, unbeknown to people, during the course of conversation “conversational hypnotherapy”. I think the biggest hurdle for those that are curious and yet apprehensive is the myth that you’ll be made to do something you don’t want to do.
The most important suggestion I could make if you are seriously considering hypnotherapy and unsure whether to try it or not, as in anything else in life, is to ask “what if I do” and “what if I don’t?”
Of course to gain the most benefit you must have confidence in and entrust into the person guiding the session.
